Capstone Final Project
Picture

Welcome to my final Capstone Project!  I have decided to use one of my real life problems in the workplace.  I work in the field of recovery; alcoholism and addiction, and I am part of the growth department team, doing business development.  It's a small team consisting of just the five of us.  We are all supposed to do different things, as our strong points vary amongst one another, but there lies the problem.  We are all doing a bit too much, and wearing many hats.  Part of our job is to bring clients in, network with other rehabs, talk to families, set up assessments, go to events, run verification of benefits, give tours of our facilities, and much more.  This sounds like a lot, because, well... IT IS...!

Our facilities provide a transitional living house, intensive out patient, recovery group management, therapists, psychiatrists, and sober coaches, all designed to help others achieve sobriety while most times dealing with the client's mental health issues.  Sometimes things can go wrong, and there is nothing we can do about it, as the old phrase goes - 'It is what it is'.  But I do feel that things can certainly tighten up a bit.

One example of what could, and should be a simple process... A simple phone call from a parent trying to help their son,  asking about our program.  If he is a good fit, his insurance has to be run through our verification process, a chart has to be set up, he would need to be scheduled for an assessment, the therapist who assesses him would then have to write up a report, then that would be sent up to our clinical director, and she would make the final decision.  So many things can go wrong during this process, and they do!  Who gets the initial phone call?  Who is setting up the chart?  Who is running the verification of benefits?  Do we even take his insurance?  What is the out of the pocket cost?  Who is setting up the assessment?  Is there an available therapist?  Is the system accurate with available therapists?  What if he is not a good fit, and our clinical director denies him?  Who is answering the questions to an irate parent?

In my final project, I will come up with some solutions, using some data and research that I have been collecting to implement these solutions into our growth department team.  My goal is quite simple - to make our team run a bit smoother with less mistakes.
